Home made scrubs and dreamy days

Jullie hebben hem waarschijnlijk ook al zien passeren, de #trashtag. Deze challenge daagt je uit om een foto te posten van een vervuilde plek vóórdat je actie ondernam en een tweede foto waarbij je het afval opgeruimd hebt en dit daarna online te zetten met de bijhorende hashtag. Deze challenge was oorspronkelijk een wedstrijd uit 2015 maar is door het internet weer naar boven gehaald. Helemaal top, vind ik! Hoe minder afval er rondslingert, hoe minder onze zeeën en rivieren vervuild raken met plastiek en andere rommel. Zelf probeer ik minstens 2 keer per maand in de buurt te gaan opruimen en daarnaast wanneer ik afval zie liggen om dit meteen op te rapen. Nog beter is natuurlijk om te vermijden dat je (overbodig) afval creëert. DIY projectjes zoals de zelfgemaakte scrubs onderaan deze post zijn alvast een goeie start. English: You have probably already seen the #trashtag on socials. For this challenge you have to post before and after photos of a littered place as it is and a photo after you cleaned it and put it online with the hashtag. Originally this idea was an add for a 2015 competition but the internet made it popular again these days, which is a really great thing! The less garbage we can find on the ground, the less polluted our oceans and rivers will be. I try to go garbagepicking at least twice a month and pick up stuff whenever I see it on the ground (without searching for it). But the best way is to reduce plastics and other garbage from the start and DIY projects like the home made scrubs in this post are a good way to start! Ondertussen is mijn tweede werkweek als thuiswerker van start gegaan. Doordat mijn winterbestemming naar Boa Vista eerder dit jaar geannuleerd werd en er geen andere plekken vrij zijn voor mijn profiel, heb ik een nieuwe opdracht gekregen totdat ik naar Kos vertrek voor het zomerseizoen. De komende weken mag ik van thuis uit aan vertaalopdrachten voor nieuwe excursies werken. Dus terwijl het pijpenstelen regent, word ik betaald om weg te dromen over paradijselijke bestemmingen. En tussen het dromen door te zorgen dat ik de deadline haal uiteraard! Het verlangen naar warmere dagen heeft er dan wel weer voor gezorgd dat ik mijn "reisherinneringenprikbord" aangevuld heb en eens een opkuis gehouden heb in mijn toilettassen, zodat ik langzaam aan al mijn schoonheidsproducten voor milieuvriendelijke alternatieven kan ruilen. De eerste werkweek is alvast goed meegevallen en doordat ik enkel een laptop en internet nodig heb, kan ik zelfs vanuit Portugal werken. Het zal nog wat wennen zijn om deze job te combineren met de travelvibe maar we zien binnen een goeie week wel hoe dat lukt, want dan ga ik weer naar Sétubal. Ik zie het alvast zitten!

In the meantime my second work week as a remote worker has started. Since my winterdestination (Boa Vista) got cancelled and they don't seem to find another destination that fits my profile, TC offered me another job until I leave for Kos for the summermonths. The following weeks I will be working from home to translate new excursion programs. So while it's raining cats and dogs out here I get payed to dream about paradise holidays. And of course also to make sure I make the deadlines in between daydreaming! But all that dreaming about warmer days also made me finallyyy update my "travel memories pin-up board" and I also cleaned out my toilet bags so I can slowly switch my standard beautyproducts for environmental friendly ones. My first work week went quite well and because I only need my laptop and an internet connection, I can work from Portugal (or any other place). I will have to get used to balancing my work with the travelvibe but we will see how that works out in about a week when I am going back to Sétubal. I am so looking forward to it!

Gezichtsscrub / Face scrub

Nodig / Ingredients

1 tl honing / 1 tsp honey

1 tl bicarbonaat / 1 tsp baking soda

How to / How to

Je kunt dit prima in je handpalm mengen zodat je minder geklieder hebt én afwas uitspaart. Breng het plakkerige mengsel in draaiende bewegingen aan over je hele gezicht. Vermijd de zone rond je ogen en let op aan je haargrens zodat je daar niet met een hele plakboel eindigt. Laat een minuutje of 3-5 zitten en spoel daarna af met lauw water. Dep droog en geniet van je zachte huid.

You can easily mix this in the palm of your hand to spill less of it and avoid washing dishes (Me? Lazy?). Put the mixture on your face while making circulare movements, avoid the direct area around your eyes. Pay attention to your hairline so it doesn't get too sticky. Leave this honeyscrub on your face for 3-5 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Pat dry and enjoy your soft skin!

DIY home made zero waste honeyscrub, honing scrub

Lichaamsscrub / Body scrub

Nodig / Ingredients

4 el (gebruikt) koffiegruis / 4 tbsp (used) coffee grit

1 el olijfolie of andere olie / 1 tbsp olive oil or other oil

How to / How to

Ik gebruik ongeveer 1 el olie op 4 el koffiegruis. Dit is ruim voldoende voor mijn armen en benen. Als ik voorzichtig ben en de scrub niet op mijn vel kwak (soms een moeilijke opgave voor mij), is dit genoeg voor mijn hele lichaam. Doordat ik het reeds doorgelopen koffiegruis gebruik, "red" ik dit van de vuilbak en verspil ik geen nieuw product. Het werkt ook met gemalen koffie recht uit de verpakking maar ik vind het fijner aanvoelen hoe ik het hierboven uitleg. Zal wel tussen mijn oren zitten. Het is natuurlijk wel meer eco-proof als je het hergebruikt dus laten we het vooral daarvoor doen.

I use about 1 tbsp oil on 4 tbsp coffee grit. This is more than enough for my arms and legs. If I am being more careful and don't smudge this stuff on my skin I can get enough out of it for my whole body. Because I am using used coffee grit I am "saving" this grit from ending up in the trash directly and it saves me new product as well. This recipe works with unused coffee grit straight from the package as well, but I like it more the way I just discribed. It's possible that this is just between my ears as well of course. But let's see it from the most eco friendly way and go for reusing this grit as a base for our scrub.
